Mono County, California, is experiencing the highest average gas prices in the United States, with prices reaching $6.72 per gallon. This rural area, near Yosemite National Park, is grappling with the impact of high transportation costs, limited demand, and reduced competition. The situation is exacerbated by California's high state gasoline tax and environmental regulations, which add additional costs. The ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran has further increased gas prices by $1.14 nationally, and $1.29 in California. Residents like Connie Lear are struggling to afford fuel, resorting to using bicycles or golf carts for local travel.
