Extreme Fire Risk Predicted for Colorado in June and July
Colorado Governor Jared Polis and state officials have issued a warning about a significantly increased risk of wildfires in the coming months. This heightened risk is attributed to severe drought conditions, record-low snowpack, and climate change impacts. The Front Range and western Colorado are particularly vulnerable, with 95% of the state expected to experience varying levels of drought during early summer. Officials noted that human actions are responsible for approximately 90% of wildfires, emphasizing the importance of public awareness and preventive measures. The state has been preparing by enhancing its firefighting capabilities, including aircraft and ground crews, to respond swiftly to fire outbreaks.
