Wyoming Opens New $7.5 Million Helibase to Enhance Wildfire Response and Modernize Technology
Wyoming has inaugurated a new $7.5 million helibase at Casper-Natrona County International Airport, designed to significantly improve the state's wildfire response capabilities. The facility, announced on Monday, aims to provide state firefighters with enhanced access to technology and communication infrastructure. It centralizes state forestry staff, wildland firefighters, and federal partners into a single aviation hub. Chris Fallbeck, assistant fire management officer for aviation with the Wyoming State Forestry Division, stated that the new helibase replaces an older facility located near Lander, which suffered from limited connectivity, making it difficult for firefighters to access crucial information and state networks. The new helibase is connected to the state network, allowing crews to access the same systems as other state agencies and facilitate easier file sharing.
