Law Schools Debate AI's Role in Legal Education
Two prominent law schools, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Chicago, are adopting different approaches to the integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in their curricula. Berkeley has implemented a restrictive policy, prohibiting the use of AI in graded work and exams, while Chicago plans to introduce supervised AI use in upper-level courses after foundational skills are developed. This debate highlights the challenge of balancing academic integrity with the need to prepare students for a legal profession increasingly influenced by AI.
