Milligan University Cyclists Killed in Tennessee Training Ride Crash, Driver Charged
Two students from Milligan University's cycling team, Haylan Engdahl, 19, from Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, and Brayden Rogers, were killed in a crash during a training ride in Carter County, Tennessee. Seven other cyclists were injured in the incident, with four in critical condition. The team was struck by a driver on Highway 19E. John Benfield, a 69-year-old North Carolina man, has been charged with vehicular homicide and aggravated assault in connection with the crash. Engdahl, a sophomore, was remembered by his former high school, Christian Life School in Kenosha, Wisconsin, for his energy, passion, and infectious smile. Milligan University President Stephen Waers has called for community support and prayer for those affected by the tragedy.
