Extreme Heat, Wildfire Risks, and Severe Storms Sweep Across the U.S.
Dangerous weather conditions are impacting large portions of the United States this week, with extreme heat, wildfire risks, and severe thunderstorms dominating forecasts. States from California to Colorado experienced record-breaking temperatures in the upper 90s and triple digits on August 8 and 9, with heat warnings extending into midweek. In the Northwest, dry conditions and gusty winds are fueling wildfire risks, while poor air quality advisories remain in effect due to ongoing fires near Spokane, Washington. Meanwhile, humid air in the Central and Eastern U.S. is expected to trigger severe thunderstorms, flash flooding, and damaging winds. Meteorologists warn that debris from wildfires may migrate eastward, creating hazy skies. Additionally, parts of Europe are grappling with their fifth heat wave of the year, with temperatures exceeding 95°F (35°C) in Spain and France, further exacerbating wildfire risks.
