Tropical Storm Hernan Forms; Heavy Rain Expected in Hawaii
Tropical Storm Hernan has formed in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 1,460 miles (2,350 kilometers) west of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center (NBC News, 2026). The storm is not currently threatening land and is moving west with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (64 kph). Meanwhile, a separate weather system, identified as potential Tropical Cyclone One-C, is located about 775 miles (1,247 kilometers) east-southeast of Hawaii. This system is expected to bring heavy rain, high winds, and dangerous surf to the Hawaiian Islands starting late Friday. Forecasters predict it could strengthen into a tropical storm and make landfall on the southern part of the Big Island by Saturday.
