Purdue Pharma's Settlement Finalized, Transforming Company to Combat Opioid Crisis
Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, is set to dissolve and be replaced by a new entity, Knoa Pharma, as part of a settlement addressing thousands of lawsuits related to the opioid crisis. This settlement, one of the largest in recent years, involves a minimum of $7.4 billion, primarily from the Sackler family, who owned Purdue. The settlement aims to address the opioid epidemic, which has resulted in over 900,000 deaths in the U.S. since 1999. Knoa Pharma will operate with a mission to combat the opioid crisis, with a board appointed by states. The settlement also includes making 30 million company documents public to ensure transparency.
