Federal Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against President Trump's Religious Liberty Commission
A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the composition of President Donald Trump's Religious Liberty Commission. The lawsuit, filed by a multifaith group of organizations, alleged that the commission lacked religious and ideological diversity, as it included only Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish members, excluding Muslims and other minority religions. The plaintiffs argued that this violated the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which mandates a fair balance of viewpoints. However, U.S. District Judge John P. Cronan ruled that the commission's composition was fairly balanced, noting the diverse backgrounds and experiences of its members. The judge also dismissed claims of transparency violations, stating that the law does not require immediate public access to commission records. The administration has defended the commission's work, emphasizing its commitment to promoting religious liberty.
