Florida Condo Crisis: 2,500 Buildings Show Structural Deterioration
A report by the Florida Legislature's Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability has revealed that over 2,500 condominium and cooperative buildings in Florida require Phase Two inspections due to signs of structural deterioration. This situation is particularly acute in South Florida's coastal counties, which have a large inventory of aging buildings. The report follows the tragic collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside, which prompted stricter building inspection requirements. In response, lawmakers have reintroduced legislation to expand financing options for necessary repairs.
