Prebiotics Enhance Gut Health and Neurological Recovery in Stroke Models
Recent research highlights the role of prebiotics in promoting gut health and potentially aiding neurological recovery in stroke models. Prebiotics, such as inulin and fructooligosaccharides, are indigestible dietary components that selectively foster the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut. This study emphasizes the gut-brain axis, a communication network linking the brain, gut, and microbiota, as a novel framework for understanding stroke pathophysiology. The research suggests that targeting gut microbiota through diet, probiotics, prebiotics, and other interventions could enhance intestinal barrier integrity, increase beneficial metabolites, and reduce harmful ones, thereby modulating central pathology from the periphery.
