Milwaukee Launches New Dashboard to Track Neighborhood Displacement and Gentrification
Milwaukee has introduced a new Displacement Risk Dashboard, developed by Data You Can Use and the Community Development Alliance (CDA), to provide a clearer understanding of neighborhood changes across the county. The dashboard integrates various public data sources, including Census, property ownership, zoning, and land-use information, to analyze four key aspects of neighborhood transformation: divestment, abandonment, displacement, and gentrification. This tool aims to move beyond broad generalizations by illustrating how different pressures, such as rising property values and abandonment, can occur simultaneously even within adjacent census tracts. For instance, the dashboard revealed a 93% increase in median home values and a doubling of rents in Bay View, while in Midtown, median home values surged by 134%.
