Italian Scientist Questions Maldives Diving Tragedy Involving Wife and Daughter
Carlo Sommacal, an Italian scientist, is seeking answers following the tragic loss of his wife, Monica Montefalcone, and daughter, Giorgia Sommacal, in a diving accident in the Maldives. The incident occurred during a scuba diving expedition in a cave, where five individuals, including Monica and Giorgia, failed to resurface. Monica, an associate professor of ecology at the University of Genoa, and her daughter were part of a university group on the expedition. Carlo Sommacal expressed disbelief over the incident, emphasizing his wife's extensive diving experience and cautious nature. He suspects that an unforeseen event, possibly involving equipment failure, may have led to the tragedy. The recovery mission for the bodies was halted due to adverse weather conditions, with only one body, that of Gianluca Benedetti, recovered so far.
