National Hispanic Health Foundation Launches Campaign to Address Public Health Workforce Shortage
The National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF) has initiated a new campaign, supported by the CDC, to tackle a significant shortage in the public health workforce. The campaign, titled 'Strong Workforce, Healthier Communities,' is part of NHHF's Recruitment and Retention Public Health Program. It aims to address the need for an additional 80,000 full-time public health professionals, as identified by a 2021 analysis from the de Beaumont Foundation. The campaign will initially be tested in four pilot markets: Los Angeles, Albuquerque, Phoenix, and Atlanta, with plans for nationwide expansion. Dr. Elena Rios, President of NHHF, emphasized the importance of inspiring the next generation of public health leaders, while Guadalupe Pacheco, NHHF Program Director, highlighted the urgency due to high attrition rates and a lack of awareness about public health careers.
