Vigil and Funeral Arrangements Announced for Fallen Army Sgt. Angel Rampersad
A candlelight vigil and funeral service have been scheduled to honor Sgt. Angel Rampersad, a 28-year-old Army sergeant who was killed in an attack on a base in Jordan. The vigil will take place on Monday at 7 p.m. at 133-01 96th Street in Ozone Park, where Rampersad's family resides. The community has shown an outpouring of support, with American flags flying at half-staff in the area. Rampersad's mother, Carol Acevedo, expressed pride in her daughter's service and sacrifice. A public funeral service will be held on Friday at Calvary Assembly of God church, followed by a procession to Long Island National Cemetery. Governor Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani have both acknowledged Rampersad's courage and selflessness.
