Detroit's Perfecting Church Nears Completion After Two Decades of Delays
Detroit's Perfecting Church is nearing the completion of its new campus, located near 7 Mile and Woodward, after approximately two decades of construction delays, financial roadblocks, and legal challenges. Bishop Marvin Winans of Perfecting Church stated that the project, initially envisioned over 20 years ago with a $60 million price tag, faced significant setbacks, including the 2008 financial crisis. In 2023, the city of Detroit filed a lawsuit against the church due to the slow pace of construction, but the suit was later dropped after the church and city agreed on a schedule of goals and a timeline for completion. The new campus will be nearly 170,000 square feet on over 16 acres of land, featuring a sanctuary for over 3,000 people, a 500-seat chapel, a 400-seat amphitheater, and various other facilities. Construction is expected to conclude by the end of the year, with grand opening details still being planned.
