Quincy Fire Department Responds to House Fire Caused by Faulty Gas Oven
The Quincy Fire Department (QFD) responded to a house fire on Monday afternoon at 620 Payson Avenue in Quincy. Officials determined that the fire originated from a faulty gas stove. The structure sustained significant damage from fire, heat, and smoke. Residents who were inside the house at the time of the incident were able to evacuate safely, though they have been displaced. The Red Cross was called to provide assistance with shelter for the affected residents. Twenty-two firefighters were deployed to control the blaze, with support from the Quincy Police Department, Adams County Ambulance, Ameren, and the QFD Rehab Team. One firefighter sustained an injury during the operation. Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control in less than an hour, and Payson Avenue between Sixth and Seventh Streets was closed during the response.
