New York Sues Trump Administration Over Offshore Wind Project Cancellation
New York's attorney general has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over a deal that effectively cancels an offshore wind project. The agreement, made public in March, involves French company TotalEnergies receiving a $1 billion refund for its offshore wind leases off New York and North Carolina, provided the funds are redirected to fossil fuel projects. The lawsuit, joined by attorneys general from several northeastern states, argues that the cancellation will negatively impact state economies, energy grids, and climate goals. The complaint, filed in the District Court for the District of Columbia, names Interior Secretary Doug Burgum among the defendants, alleging procedural violations in the lease cancellation. The Trump administration's strategy to end offshore wind projects follows previous court challenges to its executive actions against wind development.
