East Idaho Records Hottest July, Faces Scorching August Amid Wildfires
East Idaho experienced its hottest July on record, with average daily high temperatures significantly exceeding historical norms. Cities such as Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, and Burley reported average highs of 94°F (34.4°C), 93°F (33.9°C), 91°F (32.8°C), and 92°F (33.3°C), respectively, all surpassing their usual averages by 5-6°F. The extreme heat has already claimed three lives in southern Idaho, all individuals over the age of 55, as reported by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. Additionally, two large wildfires are currently burning in the region, further compounding the challenges posed by the heatwave. Residents are now bracing for a potentially scorching August, with forecasts indicating continued high temperatures.
