Congresswoman Matsui Secures $1 Million Federal Funding for Sacramento Homelessness Initiative
Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07) announced $1 million in federal funding for the Florin Road Safe Stay Community in Sacramento. This investment, made in collaboration with Sacramento County leaders and Five Keys, aims to enhance the facility's infrastructure and services for individuals experiencing homelessness. The funds will be used to install modular sanitation facilities, replacing existing mobile units, and to create a permanent outdoor gathering space for guests and their pets. These improvements are intended to strengthen daily operations, making the site more stable, functional, and supportive. The Florin Road Safe Stay Community, operated by Five Keys in partnership with Sacramento County, provides private cabins, meals, showers, laundry, pet accommodations, and on-site case management to help residents transition to permanent housing. Sacramento County's latest point-in-time count revealed over 7,400 people experiencing homelessness, with a notable increase in shelter occupancy.
