Kean Announces Federal Funding for Bernards Township Police Communications Upgrade
Congressman Tom Kean Jr. has announced the provision of $835,000 in federal funding to Bernards Township for upgrading police communications equipment. This funding, part of the Community Project Funding process, will replace outdated single-frequency radios with 89 new tri-band radios, enhancing communication capabilities for the police department. The upgrade aims to improve coordination and emergency response, thereby bolstering public safety. Local officials, including Mayor Ana Duarte McCarthy and Police Chief Timothy King, have praised the initiative for its role in supporting law enforcement and easing the financial burden on local taxpayers. Since taking office, Kean has secured nearly $22 million for law enforcement in New Jersey's 7th District.
