Garten has been a supporter of President Trump and backed the redistricting efforts in Indiana, which were opposed by Bray. This internal conflict comes in the wake of several Republicans losing their primaries to Trump-backed challengers, which has intensified calls for a change in leadership. Governor Mike Braun has also expressed a desire for Bray's replacement, describing him as a 'wet blanket.' Garten's name has been mentioned as a potential successor to Bray, although he has not confirmed any intentions to pursue the position.
