Madison County Auditor Michele Brant Retains Prominent Law Firm Amid Legal Battle with Supervisors
Madison County Auditor Michele Brant has reportedly engaged the prominent Parrish Kruidenier Law Firm to represent her in a legal dispute against Supervisors Jessica Hobbs and Heather Stancil. This development follows Brant's claims that the Supervisors retaliated against her after she filed two civil rights complaints last year. The alleged retaliation included restructuring Brant's office and denying her efforts to fill a position that was reportedly already approved in the budget. Brant successfully petitioned for an injunction and a Writ of Certiorari in June. Subsequently, the Supervisors' legal counsel moved to disqualify County Attorney Stephen Swanson from representing Brant due to a conflict of interest, a motion a judge agreed with, ruling that the county must fund an attorney for Brant in her official capacity.
