Former Iowa Governor and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand and his running mate Dave Muhlbauer, praising Sand's 'Opportunities for All' farm policy proposals. Vilsack, along with over 50 other farmers and former Iowa agricultural leaders, joined Sand at a farmer roundtable in Ankeny, Iowa. Sand's plan focuses on diversifying family farms through investments in programs like manure digesters, which convert manure into renewable natural gas and transportable fertilizer. Vilsack highlighted that this approach aims to make farms, rather than farmers, work harder, addressing what he described as a 'farm crisis since 1973' that has led to the loss of nearly a million farms in America due to an overemphasis on productivity.
