Japan Ends Tsunami Warnings After 7.5-Magnitude Earthquake in Aomori
Japanese authorities have lifted all tsunami warnings following a powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Aomori in northeastern Japan. The earthquake occurred late on Monday, with a depth of 50 kilometers, and was felt as far away as Tokyo, over 550 kilometers from the epicenter. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the shaking intensity reached an upper 6 on a scale of 7 in the most affected areas. Despite initial concerns, waves recorded in the region reached only 70 centimeters, and no significant damage was reported. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi confirmed that 30 people sustained injuries. Local utility companies, including Hokkaido Electric Power Co., reported no power outages, although some interconnection facilities were temporarily halted. Bullet train services experienced delays and suspensions, but no major infrastructure damage was noted.
