Mount Soledad Memorial Honors Medal of Honor Recipient Master Sgt. John Chapman
Master Sgt. John 'Chappy' Chapman, an Air Force hero, was honored with a plaque at the Mount Soledad National Veterans Memorial in San Diego, California. Chapman was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2018 for his bravery during the Battle of Takur Ghar in Afghanistan on March 4, 2002. During the battle, Chapman was part of a Navy SEAL team and was initially left for dead after being wounded. However, he regained consciousness and continued to fight the enemy alone, ultimately sacrificing his life. His actions saved the lives of many, including 18 men on a helicopter he did not know. The plaque, carved from black granite, stands as a testament to his heroism and dedication to his fellow soldiers.
