Casper College Interns Begin Semester at Oil City News, Gaining Journalism Experience
Oil City News has welcomed its first fall interns from Casper College, Ashlyn Cooper and Caleb Hill, who will be on staff until mid-November. Caleb Hill, an anthropology and English major from Salt Lake City, Utah, is driven by his interests in writing and archaeology. He joined the internship to explore career opportunities in writing and has been involved in various aspects of the newsroom, including working on a novel and engaging in paranormal research. Ashlyn Cooper, a Casper native majoring in English and psychology, developed her passion for these fields through studying sciences. She gained initial journalism experience in class before being connected with Oil City News by an English instructor. Cooper enjoys researching people and participating in community events, finding the fast-paced environment of reporting appealing. Both interns will cover beats as if they were full-time journalists and shadow other reporters, according to Klark Byrd, managing editor of Oil City News.
