UK Deploys Military to Counter Russian Submarine Activity Near Critical Infrastructure
The United Kingdom has deployed military vessels to counter potential threats posed by Russian submarines near critical infrastructure such as undersea cables and pipelines. According to Defence Minister John Healey, Russian submarines spent over a month in British waters earlier this year, attempting covert operations in the High North maritime region. This area is crucial for shipping routes and houses significant infrastructure. British forces, along with allies like Norway, tracked and deterred the Russian vessels, ensuring no damage occurred to the underwater infrastructure. Healey publicly revealed the operation to demonstrate to Russian President Vladimir Putin that the activity was detected and would not be tolerated. Russia's embassy in London dismissed the claims, stating that Russia does not threaten undersea infrastructure.
