FAA Investigates Safety Incident Involving President Trump's Helicopter and American Airlines Jet
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a safety incident involving Marine One, the helicopter carrying President Trump, and an Envoy Air jet, a subsidiary of American Airlines. The incident occurred when Marine One took off from the White House, and the Envoy Air flight, bound for Pensacola, Florida, departed shortly after. The two aircraft reportedly experienced a loss of separation, although it was not deemed a dangerous close call. The FAA has imposed restrictions on helicopter operations around Washington's Reagan National Airport following a fatal collision in 2025. The National Transportation Safety Board previously cited systemic failures by the FAA in managing helicopter and airplane traffic. The FAA is planning to convene a Safety Review Team to further investigate the incident.
