ICE Places Detainer on Driver in Fatal Maryland Wrong-Way Crash
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detainer for Jose Caballero-Nolasco, the driver involved in a deadly wrong-way crash on I-270 in Bethesda, Maryland. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Caballero-Nolasco is an undocumented immigrant. ICE has formally requested that Maryland officials not release him from custody. The Montgomery County state's attorney reported that Caballero-Nolasco admitted to consuming alcohol before driving northbound in the southbound lanes of the I-270 Spur, resulting in a collision that killed a mother and daughter. He is currently facing manslaughter charges. Caballero-Nolasco's attorney stated that his client is a construction worker from El Salvador, has resided in the U.S. for 10 years, and is expecting a child with his girlfriend.
