Central U.S. Faces Extreme Wildfire Risks Amid Fire Weather Alerts
Over 15 million people in the central United States are under fire weather alerts due to a combination of high temperatures, dry air, and strong winds. The National Weather Service has issued red flag warnings and fire weather watches across several states, including Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. These conditions create a high risk for wildfires, which can spread rapidly in the dry, arid environment. The alerts are in place as a storm system moves into the region, bringing wind gusts up to 60 mph and low humidity levels.
