Durbin Creek and Camas Valley Fire Departments Receive New Gear Through MSA's Globe Gear Giveaway Amid Funding Challenges
Durbin Creek Fire and Rescue in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, and Camas Valley Rural Volunteer Fire District in Oregon are the latest recipients of new turnout gear and helmets through MSA's Globe Gear Giveaway program. This initiative, a partnership between MSA Safety, Nomex® and Kevlar® for Personal Protection, and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), aims to equip volunteer fire departments with essential protective gear. Durbin Creek, a small rural department serving 3,000 people over 60 square miles with 38 volunteers, faces annual expenses exceeding revenue, resulting in 10 firefighters using gear over a decade old and four without assigned gear. Camas Valley, with 14 volunteers covering a 50-square-mile rural area, also struggles with limited funding and resources.
