Evan Edinger, an American who has lived in London for over 13 years, has shared nine significant realizations about the United States after experiencing life abroad. His observations highlight stark contrasts in areas such as gun ownership, government functionality, public transportation, food quality, healthcare, consumer protections, and worker rights. Edinger, who grew up in a pro-gun household in New Jersey, now views the ubiquitous access to guns in the U.S. as a source of constant fear, contrasting it with his sense of safety in London. He also criticizes the perceived dysfunction of the U.S. government compared to the more effective parliamentary systems in Europe. Furthermore, he notes the superior walkability and public transport in Europe, the higher food quality due to different regulations, and the more robust social safety nets, including universal healthcare and stronger consumer and worker protections.
