Representative Ronny Jackson Honors World War II POW John T. Wilkerson at Panhandle War Memorial
Representative Ronny Jackson (TX-13) recently honored Private First Class John T. Wilkerson, a native of Parmer County, Texas, for his service and sacrifice during World War II. The ceremony took place at the Panhandle War Memorial, where Representative Jackson presented Wilkerson’s family with a flag and a shadow box. Private First Class Wilkerson served with the U.S. Army’s Battery G, 59th Coast Artillery Regiment, in the Philippine Islands. He was captured by Japanese forces on April 9, 1942, and endured over two years as a prisoner of war before his death on October 24, 1944. Representative Jackson emphasized that Wilkerson embodies the courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty characteristic of the 'Greatest Generation,' stating the importance of remembering the service and sacrifice of all Americans who have worn the uniform.
