Exmar Names World's First Ammonia Dual-Fuel Ocean Carriers in South Korea
Belgian shipowner Exmar has named two ocean-going ammonia dual-fuel midsize gas carriers, ANTWERPEN and ARLON, in South Korea. These vessels are the first of their kind, marking a significant advancement in low-emission shipping. Built in collaboration with HD Hyundai, each ship has a cargo capacity of about 46,000 cubic meters and features ammonia dual-fuel propulsion systems. This technology allows for up to 90% reduction in CO2 emissions during navigation. The project involved partnerships with Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, WinGD, and Lloyd's Register, and included extensive testing of the propulsion systems.
