Israel Deploys Iron Dome to UAE Amid Conflict with Iran, Strengthening Defense Ties
Israel has deployed an Iron Dome air defense system to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during a conflict with Iran, marking the first instance of such military support to a Gulf nation. This strategic move was initiated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who ordered the deployment to protect the UAE from Iran's extensive missile and drone attacks. The UAE, a key ally of Israel since their peace treaty in 2020, faced a barrage of over 550 ballistic and cruise missiles and more than 2,200 drones from Iran. The Iron Dome system, operated by Israeli troops, successfully intercepted numerous projectiles, although some managed to hit targets in Dubai, including the International Financial Center and the US consulate. This military cooperation underscores the deepening ties between Israel and the UAE, as well as the broader international support from countries like the US, France, the UK, Italy, and Australia.
