Authorities Warn Parents About Sharing Back-to-School Information on Social Media
Child safety advocates and prosecutors are issuing warnings to parents regarding the potential dangers of sharing personal information about their children in back-to-school social media posts. Officials, including Richard Servello, program director of the Blair County Center for Child Justice, and Cambria County District Attorney Jessica Aurandt, highlight that seemingly innocent photos, such as those with chalkboards detailing a child's school, teacher, or interests, can be exploited by child predators. Aurandt emphasized that predators can use these specific details to build trust with children, a process known as grooming. Parents are also advised to be mindful of backgrounds in photos that might reveal their home address or other identifying landmarks.
