College Student Dies from Meningococcal Disease After European Trip
Alexander 'Zander' Philogene, a 21-year-old college student, died shortly after showing symptoms of Meningococcal B, a disease often mistaken for the flu. Philogene, who was studying abroad in Austria, began experiencing dizziness, headaches, and shortness of breath after returning from a trip to Portugal. Despite being vaccinated, he may have contracted a new aggressive strain of the disease. His condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to cardiac arrest at an airport, and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Philogene's death has highlighted the dangers of meningococcal disease, which can be fatal even with treatment.
