Crete House Fire Claims Four Lives, Electrical Fault Suspected
A tragic house fire in Crete, Illinois, resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a 71-year-old man and three students from local schools. The fire, which occurred on March 25, is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, according to a news release from the Crete Fire Department. The investigation is ongoing, with the department collaborating with the Illinois State Fire Marshal's office to determine the exact cause. Firefighters responded to the blaze at a one-story home on Chalet Court around 1 a.m. but were initially unable to conduct a thorough search due to the intense fire and a partial roof collapse. Once the fire was controlled, the bodies of the victims were discovered inside. The Will County coroner's office identified the deceased as Walter Palmer, aged 71, and confirmed that all victims died as a result of the fire. Autopsies have been conducted, but final cause of death awaits further police and toxicology reports.
