Steamship Authority Faces Operational Issues Due to Expired Certifications
The Steamship Authority has encountered operational difficulties after two of its vessels, including the M/V Island Home, were removed from service. The M/V Island Home was sidelined because its radiotelephony certificate had expired, a mandatory requirement for the vessel's operation. This issue, along with other unspecified paperwork problems affecting another vessel, led to disruptions in service. Alex Kryska, the general manager of the Steamship Authority, acknowledged these lapses. He attributed the problems to deficiencies in recordkeeping and communication within the organization. The incidents highlight a need for improved administrative processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain continuous service.
