Florida Attorney General Investigates OpenAI Over Alleged Risks to Minors
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has announced an investigation into OpenAI, focusing on potential harms its artificial intelligence products may pose to minors. The investigation is partly driven by concerns that OpenAI's chatbot, ChatGPT, may have been used by the suspect in a mass shooting at Florida State University. The suspect allegedly used ChatGPT to inquire about the busiest times at the FSU student union, which could be used as evidence in an upcoming trial. Uthmeier also raised concerns about ChatGPT's role in encouraging self-harm and suicide among minors, as well as the potential for OpenAI's data to be exploited by foreign governments, particularly China. OpenAI has responded by emphasizing its commitment to safety and cooperation with the investigation, highlighting its Child Safety Blueprint aimed at preventing AI abuse.
