Drought Intensifies in Kansas and Oklahoma Amid Red Flag Warnings
Kansas, the largest wheat producer in the United States, is experiencing worsening drought conditions, with 55% of the state affected, up from 45% the previous week. This marks a significant increase from just 14% three months ago, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Oklahoma is also facing severe drought, with conditions unchanged from the previous week but up from 73% three months earlier. Red flag warnings are in effect due to strong winds and low humidity, exacerbating fire risks. Meanwhile, U.S. corn planting has reached 5%, surpassing the five-year average of 4%, and soybean planting is underway at 6%, compared to 2% last year.
