UK Beaches Face Health Concerns as Hundreds Fall Ill Due to Water Pollution
A significant number of beachgoers in the UK have reported falling ill after swimming in polluted waters, according to a marine charity. The Environment Agency's recent findings highlighted that nearly all of England's lakes, rivers, and coastal waters are contaminated with toxic chemicals. Surfers Against Sewage (SAS), a campaign group, has received a record number of sickness reports from individuals who have visited these beaches. Since the beginning of the year, 765 reports of illness have been recorded across 406 locations, with more than half occurring since May. The illnesses reported include gastroenteritis and ear infections, with some cases leading to hospitalizations. The beaches affected include several blue flag spots, which are typically recognized for their high water quality and safety standards.
