Schneider Hospital Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Malpractice Leading to Patient's Death
A lawsuit has been filed against several doctors and nurses at Schneider Regional Medical Center following the death of Jahnai Niles, a patient who allegedly did not receive appropriate care for his condition. The civil complaint, filed in the territory’s Superior Court, names doctors Thomas Launch, Immett Habtes, and Michael Fisher, along with 10 unnamed nurses and staff, as defendants. Mr. Niles initially visited the hospital in September 2024 with symptoms of chest tightness, shortness of breath, and a cough. He was treated and discharged with antibiotics. However, his symptoms persisted, leading to a second hospital visit in October 2024, where he was diagnosed with multifocal pneumonia. The lawsuit claims that the hospital staff failed to provide a protective airway and aspiration prevention plan, and an echocardiogram was not performed in a timely manner.
