Multi-State 'Saturday Night Fever' Operation Removes Dozens of Commercial Trucks and Drivers from I-95
A multi-state law enforcement operation, dubbed 'Saturday Night Fever,' recently targeted commercial vehicles and drivers along the Interstate 95 corridor. This joint safety blitz, which included state troopers from South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, focused on late-night and early-morning commercial traffic. Law enforcement conducted 568 inspections, leading to 78 drivers and 25 commercial motor vehicles being placed out of service due to severe safety and mechanical violations. Additionally, officers issued 173 moving violations and made seven criminal arrests, including charges for drug trafficking and fentanyl possession. The operation specifically targeted dangerous driving behaviors such as fatigued driving, impairment, distraction, mechanical equipment failures, and unsecured cargo, which often go unnoticed during these hours. This marks South Carolina's third 'Saturday Night Fever' enforcement this year and the first to expand across state lines.
