Jackie the Big Bear Eagle's Health Declines as Anemia Worsens
Jackie, a well-known bald eagle from Big Bear Lake, is experiencing worsening health due to severe anemia, according to the Ojai Raptor Center. Recent bloodwork revealed a drop in her packed cell volume to 13%, indicating a decline in her condition. Jackie was rescued in July after being found grounded near her nest and has been under intensive care since. The center is conducting advanced diagnostic tests to determine the cause of her illness, which remains unexplained. Despite previous signs of improvement, her condition has deteriorated, prompting expanded testing efforts. The center has requested patience from the public as they work to understand and treat Jackie's illness.
