Pennsylvania Senate Approves Bills for Animal Abuser Registry and Increased School Bus Driver Penalties
The Pennsylvania Senate has passed two significant pieces of legislation. Senate Bill 1311, known as Aimee’s Law, aims to establish a statewide animal abuser registry. This registry, to be maintained by the Pennsylvania State Police, would require individuals selling, transferring, or offering dogs, cats, or horses for adoption to check the registry and refuse placement with convicted abusers. The bill is named after Aimee, a husky found abandoned and severely neglected, who did not survive despite rescue efforts. Additionally, Senate Bill 1262 was approved, which seeks to increase penalties for school bus drivers operating under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or a dangerous combination thereof. This bill follows last year's Senate Bill 65, which increased stopping distance requirements for drivers approaching a stopped school bus with flashing red lights. Both bills have been sent to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
