McHenry County Prepares for Major Flooding as Fox River Rises
Residents in McHenry County, Illinois, are actively preparing for significant flooding as the Fox River continues to rise. According to the Chicago Tribune, the river is expected to reach major flood levels within days, prompting a community-wide effort to protect homes and infrastructure. Volunteers have been filling and stacking sandbags to create barriers against the rising waters. The river, which flows from southeastern Wisconsin into McHenry County, has already caused flooding in low-lying areas, with roads like Rawson Bridge Road closed due to inundation. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Water Prediction Service forecasts that the river will crest later this week, with water levels at the Algonquin tailwater expected to exceed 12 feet by Thursday morning.
