Harnett County Woman Rescues Kidnapped Girl, Suspect Charged
A Harnett County woman, Jennifer Maxwell, is being hailed as a hero after she rescued a 12-year-old girl who had been kidnapped. Maxwell was driving home on U.S. Highway 421 when she observed a young girl running out of the woods and falling into a ditch, crying hysterically. After noticing that no other drivers stopped, Maxwell turned around to check on the girl. The girl informed Maxwell that she had been kidnapped. Maxwell then helped the girl into her car and immediately contacted 911. The girl, who was wearing a large T-shirt and shorts but no shoes, had scratch marks on her body. She recounted spending the night at a friend's house when the suspect, Daniel Gear, woke her up. She stated she got into his truck, and they drove to a wooded area where he made her get out and walk for several hours, pushing and grabbing her shoulder. The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office has since taken Daniel Gear into custody, charging him with first-degree kidnapping and assault on a female.
