NOAA Partners with Google Cloud to Enhance Weather Forecasting Capabilities
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has selected Google Cloud as its primary provider of high-performance computing infrastructure for the Weather and Climate Operational Supercomputing System (WCOSS). This transition marks a significant shift from traditional on-premises computing to a cloud-first infrastructure, positioning NOAA as a leader in global weather modeling. Google Cloud's H4D VMs, powered by AMD EPYC processors, will support NOAA's demanding workloads, enabling more accurate and timely weather predictions. This collaboration builds on a long-standing partnership between NOAA and Google Cloud, aimed at improving forecast accuracy and public safety.
